Police near Temirtau discovered a home-grown marijuana plantation with 125 cannabis plants, according to infohub.kz. A 19-year-old local resident has been detained on suspicion of cultivation.
In a village near Temirtau, officers uncovered a specially equipped greenhouse used for growing narcotic plants. The operation took place during the republican preventive operation “Qarasora-2026”.
The suspect, a 19-year-old local, was arrested by the Temirtau police department’s anti-drug unit, together with the Department of the Penitentiary System for Karaganda Region and Ulytau Region.
“During an inspection of a private residence, on the household plot and in a specially equipped greenhouse, police found 125 cannabis plants. During a search of an outbuilding, they also seized dried plant-based narcotics and an unregistered hunting rifle. According to preliminary data, the suspect cultivated the cannabis himself using specially created conditions,” said Kuanysh Orynbetov, First Deputy Head of the Karaganda Region Police Department.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched under Article 300, Part 1 of the Criminal Code for illegal cultivation of banned narcotic plants.
Police reminded that illegal growing of such plants carries criminal liability. Efforts to detect drug-related crimes will continue within the framework of “Qarasora-2026”.
