A scandal has erupted in Temirtau over a tank installed in the courtyard of a residential building. Local residents have come out against its possible dismantling, reports the website infohub.kz.

Earlier, a video appeared on the Instagram account temirtau.online showing several citizens chanting in unison: "Hands off the tank." The description clarifies that residents of the MZhK opposed the possible removal of the metal tank, which has stood in the yard for over 35 years. It is noted that the object was to be removed after a child was injured.

"According to old-timers, in the late 1980s, the citizens themselves saved this tank from being melted down. They obtained permission to install it in the yard, and in return collected and handed over to the factory an equivalent amount of scrap metal. Since then, residents have more than once defended their landmark," the post says.

Locals believe that a single accident should not be a reason for the disappearance of a part of the district's history, so they have organized a signature collection.

Today, the city mayor Sapar Satayev made an official statement on this matter. On his Instagram page, he assured Temirtau residents that the issue of dismantling the tank is not currently on the agenda. No decisions have been made or planned regarding its removal.

"At the same time, I agree that the surrounding area needs improvement. If the necessary funding is available, we will consider the possibility of comprehensive improvement of this area in 2027. Until then, I have instructed to ensure proper maintenance of the territory, maintain order, and take necessary measures for the safety of residents," the head of the city wrote.
