An international team of ten climbers, led by well-known blogger and former British marine Nirmal Purja, has gone missing after an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan, reports infohub.kz.
The incident occurred around noon on July 30 at the 8,047-meter summit in the Karakoram range. After the avalanche, the team stopped communicating, officials from Pakistan's mountaineering service said.
The expedition includes one American, one Chinese, one Omani, and five Nepali climbers. Nirmal Purja, the group's leader, became famous for climbing all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks in just over six months in 2019.
Karrar Haidri, vice president of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, said: "We are coordinating with authorities and trying to arrange a rescue operation with a helicopter on Friday morning Pakistan time, depending on weather conditions."
The publication notes that Broad Peak is considered one of the most difficult mountains for expeditions and ranks 12th in the world by height. The Alpine Club of Pakistan also said it is in constant contact with authorities to ensure all available resources are mobilized at the earliest opportunity.
