The week spanning late September and early October was a busy one for Kazakhstan's tenge: the national currency first strengthened below 440 tenge per dollar, then pulled back on Friday, infohub.kz reports.
The week began with the weighted average dollar rate continuing its decline: on Monday, September 28, it stood at 441.88 tenge. Then on September 30, the US currency fell below 440 tenge — a level last seen in May 2024.
By the end of the week, however, the trend reversed: according to the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), the weighted average dollar rate following trading on October 2 came in at 448.36 tenge, gaining 6.1 tenge on Friday.
According to the Kurs.kz portal, exchange offices set the following prices ahead of the weekend. In Astana, the dollar was bought at 443 to 445 tenge and sold at 450 to 452 tenge. In Almaty, buying ranged from 445 to 450 tenge and selling from 450 to 455 tenge. In Shymkent, buying was 449 to 451 tenge and selling 452 to 453 tenge.
The euro is also heading into the weekend having nearly recovered all its losses for the week: on Friday its rate rose by 4.11 tenge to reach 504.73 tenge. Exchange offices are offering the following prices. In Astana, buying ranges from 500 to 502 tenge and selling from 510 to 512 tenge. In Almaty, buying is 498 to 505 tenge and selling 505 to 510 tenge. In Shymkent, buying ranges from 497 to 507 tenge and selling from 504 to 518 tenge.
