Tesla has unveiled a next-generation electric Roadster that lifted off the ground, flipped over and landed during its presentation. Engineers from SpaceX took part in developing the unusual system, according to infohub.kz.

The showcase took place on October 15 in Texas, nearly nine years after the model was first revealed. Tesla demonstrated a car that drove upside down up a special ramp, launched off it, performed an aerial flip and made a controlled landing. In another segment, the sports car flew over a row of the brand's vehicles.

For its maneuvers, the Roadster uses fans under the floor that generate downforce and ten cold-gas thrusters. According to CarScoops, the compressed air is stored in two tanks of 600 liters each. The system was developed with SpaceX's involvement and is meant to help the car perform aerial maneuvers.

Tesla also claimed a 0-to-60 mph (96 km/h) time of 0.81 seconds. However, the presentation did not explain how the result was measured. Top speed was stated at 230 mph (about 370 km/h).

Tesla's website lists three versions of the sports car: Performance, Thrust and Rocket. The latter will get thrusters that allow the car to lift off the ground and will be available by invitation. This version is designed for one person and is not intended for public roads. The Thrust variant is also equipped with a jet system, while the Performance is designed for two passengers.

Tesla has not yet disclosed the full specifications of the production car. The company plans to start production in 2028. The new generation Roadster was first shown in 2017, but the original launch dates were repeatedly pushed back.

Earlier, Kursiv Auto reported that Tesla is training its Cybercab robotaxis to recognize pets at night.
