A barber in Lewisville, Texas, found a bag containing a large sum of cash and checks next to an ATM — and immediately turned the find over to law enforcement, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to Good News Network, the man and his companion spotted the bag right on the ATM. Inside were $128,514 in cash, along with a small pouch holding 19 checks. Without hesitation, the honest citizen contacted the local police department and handed the find to an officer who arrived at the scene.
The man first tried to find out who owned the money at a nearby restaurant, but staff there confirmed the funds were not theirs. Police officers who arrived counted the bills by hand and with a special counting machine and confirmed that the total matched the receipt in the bag to the last dollar.
Investigators determined that the money and checks belonged to Bank of America. A courier for the Brinks company had repaired the ATM and accidentally forgot to take the bag of cash with him. Police said they plan to hold a private ceremony to honor the honest resident of the city.
