Police in Atyrau have detained a 30-year-old man suspected of a series of thefts from grocery stores. According to the investigation, the suspect secretly stole money from cash registers, with the latest incident involving 2.5 million tenge. The suspect is in custody and the criminal case has been sent to court, reports infohub.kz.
Police said the arrest was made by criminal police officers during operational search activities. The investigation established that the suspect committed a series of thefts in Atyrau.
“According to the investigation, the man secretly stole money from the cash registers of several grocery stores. The amounts stolen varied. The largest episode was the last theft, during which, according to law enforcement, 2.5 million tenge was stolen from one store's cash register,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan said.
A pre-trial investigation is underway under the article “Theft.” During the investigation, the suspect was remanded in custody. Police said the investigation is complete and the criminal case has been sent to court for trial.
Law enforcement noted that other information about the case is not subject to disclosure under Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Kazakhstan.
In light of the incident, police urged citizens and business owners to pay special attention to the security of their property and follow safety measures to prevent such crimes. Law enforcement recommended not leaving large sums of cash in store cash registers and taking necessary steps to protect property.
