A bear scratching its back against a tree was captured by a camera trap in Zhongar-Alatau National Park, reports infohub.kz.
In summer, the Tien Shan brown bear recovers from winter and starts building fat reserves. It usually forages for food in the early morning and cool evening hours.
The Forestry and Wildlife Committee noted that the Tien Shan brown bear aids in the natural spread of seeds of the Sievers apple tree. This rare and valuable wild fruit tree is considered the ancestor of cultivated apple varieties.
Based on camera trap footage and monitoring in Zhongar-Alatau National Park, sightings of the Tien Shan brown bear are becoming more frequent, and its population is gradually increasing.
