A hard-fought three-set victory propelled Kazakh tennis player Timofey Skatov into the second round of the ATP 250 tournament in Estoril, Portugal, according to infohub.kz.
Skatov, ranked 163rd in the world, entered the main draw as a lucky loser following another player's withdrawal. In the first round, he faced Dutchman Jesper de Jong, ranked 98th.
The match lasted 2 hours and 29 minutes, with Skatov winning 1:6, 6:4, 6:3. The Kazakh recorded no aces, committed three double faults, and converted five of eight break points.
In the second round, Skatov will face world No. 14 and top seed Andrey Rublev of Russia.
