In a dramatic penalty shootout, Kazakhstan's Tobol defeated Lithuania's Panevezys in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League, reports infohub.kz.
The second leg at Central Stadium in Kostanay ended 1-1 in regular time. Lithuanian striker Nauris Petkevicius put Panevezys ahead in the 33rd minute, but the hosts equalized through Moroccan midfielder Amin Talal in the 45+3rd minute, assisted by Kazakhstan international winger Islam Chesnokov.
Extra time failed to produce a winner, so a penalty shootout decided the ticket to the third round. Tobol prevailed 3-2, with goalkeeper Danil Ustimenko saving two spot-kicks.
In the next round, Tobol will face either Serbia's Partizan or Luxembourg's UNA Strassen. The first leg will be away on August 6, with the return leg at home on August 13.
