President of Kazakhstan Qasym-Jomart Toqaev has signed a decree dismissing Serik Shapkenov from the post of governor of Atyrau Region, reports infohub.kz.
“By decree of the Head of State, Serik Zhambulovich Shapkenov has been relieved of his duties as governor of Atyrau Region,” the Akorda statement said.
Serik Shapkenov was born on July 29, 1979, in West Kazakhstan Region. In 2000, he graduated from the Faculty of Economic Cybernetics of West Kazakhstan State University with a degree in economist-mathematician. After graduation, he taught at the same university for about a year.
He had served as governor since April 7, 2022. Previously, he worked as first deputy governor of Atyrau Region and vice minister of labor and social protection. From 2021 to 2022, he served as minister of labor and social protection.
Yesterday, July 16, it became known that on July 17, deputies of the maslikhats (local assemblies) of Atyrau and Ulytau regions will hold extraordinary sessions to elect new governors. Corresponding announcements appeared on the official websites of the regional maslikhats.
Earlier, it was reported that the governor's pompous videos did not impress the residents of Satpayev.
