The global economic cost of violence in 2025 reached nearly 22 trillion dollars, equivalent to 10% of global GDP. President of Kazakhstan Qasym-Jomart Toqaev cited the figure in a plenary address at the BRICS Plus summit in New Delhi, according to Akorda, reports infohub.kz.
The outreach / BRICS Plus session focused on strengthening resilience, innovation, cooperation and stability. Kazakhstan's leader thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his hospitality and for organizing the meeting.
"It is symbolic that our meeting is taking place in New Delhi — a city that embodies India's unique and rich cultural heritage. In the year of the 20th anniversary of cooperation within BRICS, India's chairmanship has given special momentum to a highly relevant, people-centered agenda built on the principle of 'Humanity above all,'" the President of Kazakhstan said.
According to him, BRICS countries account for nearly half of the world's population and generate 40% of global GDP. That gives the grouping significant opportunities, but at the same time places on it the responsibility to overcome divisions and deliver concrete results.
Toqaev noted that this potential cannot be fully realized without addressing the fundamental problems facing the world community and restoring trust between the leading powers.
The President cited the 2026 Global Peace Index, whose authors use the concept of the "Great Fragmentation." It describes a period of geopolitical confrontation, growing militarization, weakening multilateral institutions and rising trade barriers.
"We see that regional conflicts extend far beyond the zones of direct confrontation and have a serious impact on the global economy. Disruption to vital maritime routes has exposed the vulnerability of global energy, food and trade chains," Toqaev said.
