President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a decree dismissing Marat Sultangaziyev from the post of akim (governor) of the Almaty region, reports infohub.kz.
The presidential press service confirmed that the relevant document had been signed. The decree states: "By the decree of the Head of State, Marat Eleusizovich Sultangaziyev has been relieved of his post as akim of the Almaty region."
It is worth recalling that the day before, information appeared about the gathering of regional deputies to appoint a new akim. Marat Sultangaziyev took charge of the region in June 2022, and in December of the same year he was reappointed to this post.
Sultangaziyev was born in 1976 in the Almaty region. He graduated from Abai Almaty State University, the Kazakh State Law Academy, and the Ryskulov Kazakh Economic University. By education, he is an economist-financier, lawyer, and Master of Business Administration.
He began his career in 1997 as a first-category specialist in the legal entities inspection department of the Tax Department. From 1998 to 2001, he worked as a tax inspector, senior tax inspector, leading tax inspector, acting chief specialist, and chief tax inspector of the Tax Committee for Almaty.
From 2001 to 2010, he continued working in the Tax Committee for Almaty, rising to deputy head of the Tax Department for Almaty. From 2010 to 2012, he held senior positions in the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2012–2014, he was head of the sector of the Department for Socio-Economic Monitoring of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and in 2014–2017 he headed the Department of State Revenues for Almaty. From June 2017 to October 2018, he served as deputy head of the Department for Socio-Economic Monitoring of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From 2018 to 2022, he worked as chairman of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and in June 2022 he was appointed akim of the Almaty region.
