Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in Berlin on an official visit and held narrow-format talks with German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, infohub.kz reports.
The welcoming ceremony for the head of state took place at the German Ministry of Defense. The presidents introduced members of their delegations to each other, after which the honor guard company commander delivered a welcome report and the national anthems of both countries were played.
Tokayev and Steinmeier then proceeded to the residence of the German Federal President. The Kazakh president left an entry in the Book of Distinguished Guests.
During the talks, Tokayev thanked Steinmeier for the invitation and hospitality. He called Germany Kazakhstan's key strategic partner in Europe and noted that cooperation between the two countries is based on mutual trust, respect and shared interests.
The head of state also recalled that in 2027, 35 years will have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Germany.
Steinmeier, for his part, noted Tokayev's contribution to the development of cooperation between Astana and Berlin. The German president expressed confidence that the official visit would give additional impetus to bilateral relations.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that during his visit to Germany, Tokayev proposed creating a Kazakhstan-German investment and financial platform that would combine European capital with Kazakh co-financing, guarantees and risk-sharing mechanisms. Over several years, the Development Bank of Kazakhstan has attracted more than $1.2 billion from German financial organizations for projects in industry, energy and transport infrastructure. The president named critical materials, renewable energy and green hydrogen among the priority areas for further cooperation.
