President of Kazakhstan Qasym-Jomart Toqaev held a business meeting with Kim Dong-wan, Vice Chairman of the South Korean corporation Hanwha Group. The main topics of the talks were investment and technological cooperation, as well as attracting Korean capital to develop the republic's digital infrastructure, according to infohub.kz.
Hanwha Group is among South Korea's ten largest financial and industrial groups. The corporation was founded in 1952 and is included in the prestigious Fortune Global 500 ranking.
According to its latest consolidated financial statements, the group's annual sales for 2025 totaled 74.7 trillion South Korean won (about 24.7 trillion tenge). The conglomerate's total assets reached 289.3 trillion won (roughly 95.6 trillion tenge), while net profit stood at 1.9 trillion won (about 628.2 billion tenge). The corporation has an international network and specializes in high-tech, capital-intensive sectors of the economy.
Hanwha Group's business portfolio is diversified and spans several strategic areas. Its Hanwha Aerospace division is South Korea's largest weapons manufacturer, producing self-propelled artillery systems and missile systems. The company's defense revenue exceeds $10 billion. In addition, the corporation is actively developing a space program, serving as the systems integrator for South Korean launch vehicles.
The group invests in renewable energy and solar power generation, and also owns major shipbuilding facilities. The conglomerate's structure includes banks, insurance and investment companies that are deploying artificial intelligence and big data analytics technologies.
During the talks, the Kazakh side proposed that the corporation use the republic as a supporting technology platform for export expansion into the markets of Central Asian states.
The main focus of the proposed investment partnership is on building a national artificial intelligence ecosystem and modernizing digital infrastructure.
Hanwha Group became one of the first major South Korean corporations to build business ties with Kazakhstan. Its historical cooperation with local partners was initiated back in 1997.
