A branch of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) will open in Alatau City. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described the project as a breakthrough for the republic's cooperation with South Korea in digitalization and artificial intelligence, the Akorda press service reported, according to infohub.kz.
The head of state emphasized that Kazakhstan and South Korea are already implementing joint projects in digital technology.
"The Republic of Korea is one of the leaders in the global technology race. Kazakhstan has also become an active participant in digital transformation. The international Alem.ai center has been opened in Astana, supercomputers have been launched, and a specialized university for artificial intelligence has begun operating. A number of joint initiatives with Korea are being implemented. In particular, Woosong University has opened in Turkestan, and an Institute of Artificial Intelligence has been established in Kyzylorda together with SeoulTech. A breakthrough project of our partnership will be the opening of a KAIST branch (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) in Alatau City – one of the world's leading technological universities," the head of state said.
According to Tokayev, the AI SilkNet center for predictive analytics and foresight, created jointly with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information, also began operating this year. He proposed uniting the scientific institutions, universities, and technology companies of the two countries under its auspices.
The president also considers it important to launch, together with Korea, a regional AI Talent program to train specialists in artificial intelligence for Central Asian countries.
According to the president, this will help form a new technological space that stimulates economic growth and scientific progress.
In addition to cooperation in artificial intelligence, the sides discussed hydrogen energy and the modernization of coal generation.
It was previously reported that President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the Central Asia – Republic of Korea summit. He proposed creating a Kazakh-Korean company for semiconductor production.
