Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev announced new strategic agreements with Germany during a media briefing there, infohub.kz reports.
Responding to journalists' questions about the nature of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany ahead of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the head of state emphasized that bilateral ties are reaching a fundamentally new level.
"We assess the path we have traveled quite highly. As is known, the one who walks covers the road. We have traveled a rather difficult path and achieved great success. Germany, as you know, enjoys great respect in our country. We love and respect this country, and we duly appreciate its achievements, primarily in the economy and in other areas as well. Germany is a very authoritative state on the international stage. That is why I came with great expectations and great hope in order to reach new agreements with this country. And we have reached these agreements; now the task is their proper implementation and fulfillment. Therefore, my outlook on the future is quite positive. I am fully confident that we will achieve even greater success. During the talks, I said that we are expecting Chancellor Merz on a state visit at any time convenient for him next year," the Kazakh leader said.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Toqaev invited German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to visit the republic on a state visit.
In addition, it was reported that Toqaev and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier held talks in an expanded format. In 2025, trade turnover between the countries reached $4.5 billion, while the cumulative inflow of German investment into Kazakhstan over 20 years amounted to $8 billion. Following the meeting, the presidents adopted a joint declaration, and Steinmeier was awarded the Order of the Golden Eagle (Altyn Qyran).
