President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith has made his first official visit to Kazakhstan, a milestone that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called historic for bilateral relations, reports infohub.kz.
The leaders' meeting comes ahead of a significant anniversary: in 2027, Kazakhstan and Laos will mark 30 years of diplomatic relations. The Kazakh leader stressed that Astana views Laos as a reliable partner in Southeast Asia.
Tokayev noted Laos's steady economic growth, highlighting the country's successes in key sectors such as energy, agriculture, industry, and tourism.
He also thanked Thongloun Sisoulith for supporting Kazakhstan's initiatives on international platforms.
"We closely cooperate on the international stage, primarily within the United Nations. I would also like to express sincere gratitude for Laos's support of our initiatives under the CICA (Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia)," the President said.
Thongloun Sisoulith, in turn, expressed admiration for Kazakhstan's development pace and the scale of ongoing reforms.
"During this visit, I have seen with my own eyes how comprehensively Kazakhstan is developing and the large-scale transformations being carried out under your leadership," the Lao President stated.
Following the visit, the governments of both countries are expected to begin implementing new agreements that will open additional opportunities for trade and investment between the two states.
