Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman held a brief conversation in the arrivals hall at Astana Airport, the Akorda press service reported. The head of state called the Omani leader's visit historic for bilateral relations and emphasized the significant potential for partnership between the two countries, according to infohub.kz.
"Oman is well known as a successful state that has achieved significant results in economic development, and also plays a very active and constructive role as an international mediator. Your country enjoys well-deserved authority not only in its region but also far beyond its borders, including in Kazakhstan. I am convinced that the partnership between our countries has significant potential that must be fully unlocked and effectively realized," Tokayev said.
For his part, the Sultan of Oman thanked the President of Kazakhstan for the warm welcome and expressed confidence that the upcoming talks would be substantive and successful.
The state visit program includes high-level talks, the signing of a number of documents, and the participation of the two countries' leaders in a Kazakhstan-Oman business forum.
Earlier, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev personally greeted the Sultan of Oman at the capital's airport. From the moment the guest's plane entered Kazakhstan's airspace until it reached Astana, it was escorted by Kazakh fighter jets. An honor guard and a presidential orchestra were lined up on the airfield.
