Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has addressed criticism of the quality of roads and new housing construction in the country, pointing to the need for deep reform of the road sector and stronger oversight at all stages of construction work, infohub.kz reports.
According to the head of state, regional development is one of the key tasks of the state, and large-scale work has been carried out in this area in recent years. Residential buildings, social facilities and roads are being actively built in all regions of the country.
"Kazakhstan is gradually turning into a large construction site. You all see and know this. The most important thing is to ensure high quality and timely completion of all construction work," the President said.
At the same time, Tokayev noted that the quality of some new buildings is unacceptable and has even become a subject of public criticism. Such negligence in carrying out work can also lead to tragic consequences.
The situation in the road sector, according to the head of state, also leaves much to be desired. As an example, he cited the Taldykorgan–Ust-Kamenogorsk highway: not much time has passed since its opening, but the road surface has already begun to deteriorate.
In this regard, the President pointed to the need to revise the system for assessing the quality of road construction and to ensure strict control over construction work at all stages – from the beginning to full completion.
In addition, Tokayev demanded that the work of the National Center for Quality of Road Assets be strengthened. On the whole, he said, this area needs deep reform, and public oversight should also be strengthened.
