Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev has proposed establishing a UN International Day of Greening the Planet, using Kazakhstan's Taza Qazaqstan campaign as a model. The head of state made the announcement while addressing participants of an environmental campaign, according to infohub.kz.
According to Toqaev, Kazakhstan's initiative was supported by nearly all members of the UN General Assembly.
The president thanked young people for their volunteer work. He recalled that 2020 was the Year of the Volunteer in Kazakhstan, and that the country later proposed establishing an International Year of Volunteers at the UN. According to the head of state, that initiative was also backed by a majority of nations.
"I have always supported volunteers, including during my time at the UN," Toqaev said. He added that volunteerism has been enshrined in Kazakhstan's Constitution.
Speaking about citizens' participation in the country's life, the president urged young people to act responsibly and consider the consequences of their words and actions.
"Sometimes rash words can cause far greater damage than certain actions. This must never be forgotten," he said.
Toqaev also emphasized that he considers building a just, safe, advanced and clean Kazakhstan a shared task for all citizens. In closing, he thanked the volunteers and wished them success.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Toqaev planted trees in the Presidential Park together with young people and environmental activists. The president also proposed developing a national standard of cleanliness.
