President of Kazakhstan Qasym-Jomart Toqaev met with Ian Saunders, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, as reported by infohub.kz.
During the talks, the parties discussed improving customs administration, introducing digital technologies into customs procedures, and strengthening the transport and logistics potential of Central Asia.
Qasym-Jomart Toqaev emphasized that Kazakhstan continues to work on strengthening transport links in Eurasia and creating more favorable conditions for transit. A key area of this effort is the development of the 'smart border' model, for which the country is implementing digital solutions to optimize and expedite customs operations.
Ian Saunders praised Kazakhstan's achievements in this field, noting the adoption of modern digital technologies, improved customs administration, and enhanced institutional capacity of relevant agencies.
The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue cooperation, which has been developing between Kazakhstan and the World Customs Organization for over 30 years. Additionally, Toqaev and Saunders exchanged views on new trends and challenges in global trade, with particular attention to opportunities for expanding trade and economic ties and further developing Central Asia's transport and logistics potential.
