Kazakh boxer Torekhan Sabyrkhan has won a gold medal at the 2026 Summer Asian Games, claiming victory in the final bout of the 70-kilogram weight class, infohub.kz reports.

The boxing finals got underway on October 2 in the Japanese cities of Aichi and Nagoya. Kazakhstan national team member Torekhan Sabyrkhan stepped into the ring against Jordan's Zeyad Ishaish. The Kazakh fighter won by unanimous decision with a final score of 5:0. In addition, referees deducted one point each from Ishaish in the second and third rounds.

Sabyrkhan has thus delivered the first gold medal for Kazakhstan's boxing team at the current Asian Games 2026.

Notably, the 20-year-old Sabyrkhan is the 2025 world champion and a four-time Asian champion at the youth level.

National team captain Aibek Oralbay will also compete in a boxing final today. He will face Uzbekistan's Jakhongir Zokirov in the bout for the gold medal in the over-90-kilogram weight class.
