In the Aktobe region, a criminal case is being investigated over "ghost tours" that have victimized more than 200 people, reports the website infohub.kz.

As it turned out, representatives of one travel company received money from clients for organizing vacations, including payment for vouchers, hotel bookings, and air tickets, but never provided the promised services. As a result, many local residents were left without their planned summer holidays.

"Currently, police officers are conducting a pre-trial investigation, establishing all the circumstances of the incident, the number of victims, and the amount of material damage caused," the Aktobe region police department said.

The police reminded that during the holiday season, scammers often pose as representatives of travel companies, attracting clients with suspiciously low prices and demanding urgent payment, after which they stop communicating. Earlier, the Aktobe region prosecutor's office reported that the fraudsters were looking for victims on social networks, offering a full package of services from ticket purchases to accommodation booking.
