U.S. President Donald Trump expressed outrage over fines imposed by the European Union on American digital companies and threatened to impose significant retaliatory tariffs, reports website infohub.kz.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote about the latest fine: "The European Union is at it again, directly attacking great American companies as usual!" He noted that the EU had previously fined Apple, Amazon, and Meta, and now Google faces a new fine of nearly $1 billion, bringing the total fines against the tech giant to over $18 billion.
"This illegal and highly discriminatory practice at such a high level began in the first year of the Joe Biden administration, but it will not continue under the Trump administration. The United States of America is not a piggy bank for Europe, and we will not allow ourselves to be treated this way!" the American leader said.
The White House chief said his post can be considered an official announcement of the launch of an investigation. "The European Union will have to pay a very high price for these illegal and highly unethical actions, which I have repeatedly warned them about. All these penalties will be completely revoked, and we expect to impose substantial tariffs on the EU in the shortest possible time," the U.S. president wrote.
