U.S. President Donald Trump publicly rejected Iran's initiative for a seven-day truce, but Washington has yet to deliver a final response to Tehran through intermediaries, infohub.kz reports.
According to RBC, the American leader confirmed he turned down Iran's plan to halt hostilities for seven days and resume shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
"I reject their deal. They want to make a deal where they immediately open the Strait of Hormuz, because they are suffering a crushing defeat. (...) They want to make a deal. And I think that's fine. I like making deals too. But this deal would be unacceptable," the White House chief said, answering reporters' questions on the South Lawn.
At the same time, according to RIA Novosti, Iran has still not received a final U.S. response on the seven-day plan from intermediaries.
"We saw the U.S. president's initial reaction, but nothing has been conveyed to us through intermediaries," Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Iranian media.
The Iranian minister added that the U.S. president makes many contradictory statements.
"We are waiting for the intermediaries' final position, and on that basis we will make decisions," Araghchi added.
He said any progress on opening the Strait of Hormuz depends on the U.S. meeting Iran's conditions for it.
Recall that Iran earlier proposed to the Trump administration, through intermediaries, opening the Strait of Hormuz for one week. The temporary truce plan was presented on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
