U.S. President Donald Trump said he is considering a new large-scale military offensive against Iran and promised to soon announce a major decision on ending the conflict, according to infohub.kz.
According to the American leader, Washington faces a key decision on its next steps. He made the remarks in an interview with Axios.
"I have a big decision to make. Do I want to invade and destroy them (the Iranian regime) or not? That's a big decision. Anything can happen to me," Trump said.
Trump had earlier said the war could end soon. He expressed hope for a quick agreement and said Tehran, in his view, is interested in a peace deal. The U.S. president did not disclose possible terms of the deal or say what stage the talks are at.
In addition, Trump demanded that countries that did not support the U.S. in the conflict with Iran compensate Washington for its losses. According to him, states that refused to help the United States will have to "pay up" after the war ends.
Trump has previously spoken about a possible early end to the conflict, but did not give specific timelines or terms for a peace agreement.
Meanwhile, Iran has conveyed seven conditions to the U.S. through intermediaries for opening the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran's demands include an end to military threats, the lifting of the naval blockade and sanctions, the unfreezing of assets, compensation for damages, and guarantees for maritime navigation safety. The southern route of the strait remains closed despite Washington's demands to open it. Iran and Oman have also agreed on details of new routes.
