US President Donald Trump has acknowledged that the conflict with Iran cost the Republican Party victory in the midterm congressional elections, but called the war justified, infohub.kz reports.

Earlier, US Vice President Vance said the conflict with Iran was the main reason for the Republicans' defeat in the recent midterm congressional elections. The White House chief agreed with the vice president's view.

"I think that's largely true, because it (the conflict with Iran – ed.) briefly pushed up gasoline prices, and that's probably the reason. But at the same time, if I had the chance to do it again, I would have to do the same," Trump said.

He also believes the war was justified.

"I thought oil would go up much more, and I proceeded from that. We had no choice, we had to do it. We cannot allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons," the White House chief said.
