US President Donald Trump said Democrats who won the midterm congressional elections are "blackmailing" officials with the threat of impeachment, infohub.kz reports.
The White House chief wrote this on his Truth Social profile.
"The Democrats are threatening many people, including the US Attorney General and other officials, with impeachment and various other forms of punishment, even though they admit they have no grounds for it. At the same time, the victims of this illegal process have committed no actions that could serve as grounds for impeachment, and there were not even any intentions to commit such actions," Trump said.
According to him, this is extortion, and those responsible must be held accountable.
"In addition, they are threatening our sponsors — some of the most respected people in the world — with prison and other forms of punishment simply because they are Republicans or support the Republican Party," the US president wrote.
Trump accused Senator Slotkin of threatening to persecute young people who share Republican values and show a tendency to support the Republican Party.
The White House chief ordered an investigation.
"It is not the victims of these threats who should be in prison, but the extortionists themselves. It is time for Republicans to finally wise up — and as quickly as possible! Many people, completely innocent, have been sent threatening letters by representatives of the Democratic Party leadership. By this statement I am instructing the Department of Justice to immediately investigate this crime!" he wrote.
