U.S. President Donald Trump has floated the idea of giving the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean a new name tied to himself or to Americans, according to infohub.kz.

Under the White House chief's proposal, one of the oceans could be called the "Trump Ocean" or the "Ocean of the Americans."

"We need an ocean. I thought about either the Atlantic or the Pacific. You could call it the Trump Ocean or the Ocean of the Americans, something like that," the president said.

Trump has previously ordered the use of the name "Gulf of America" instead of the Gulf of Mexico in U.S. federal documents, and in August signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario as "Lake America." He has also proposed renaming the state of New Mexico to "New America" and the Strait of Hormuz to the "Strait of Trump."

So far, the ocean proposal remains only a statement by Trump — he has not signed any orders to change the name. Even if Washington introduces a new name for use by U.S. government agencies, that alone would not obligate other countries or international organizations to abandon the names Atlantic or Pacific Ocean.
