President of the United States Donald Trump has decided against a live broadcast of Nidal Hasan's execution. The White House chief emphasized that the sentence will be carried out as scheduled, infohub.kz reports.
Trump announced his decision to cancel the live broadcast of the execution in a post on Truth Social. In the post, the president blamed the Obama administration for allowing the tragedy at Fort Hood.
Trump also noted that a live broadcast of the execution could serve as a serious deterrent and show the world how America deals with terrorists.
"However, many good and well-meaning people would prefer not to see his death either live or through any other visual means. He will die as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be broadcast," the U.S. president said.
According to RIA Novosti, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth supported Trump's decision to cancel the broadcast of the execution. The Secretary of War discussed the matter with the president, department spokesperson Sean Parnell said.
Earlier it was reported that Donald Trump approved the execution of the death sentence for Nidal Malik Hasan, who killed 13 people and wounded 32 others at Fort Hood. This will be the first execution of an American serviceman by firing squad since World War II.
The execution date was later set for December 3, 2026. It was also reported that the execution was intended to be made public.
Last week, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric called the U.S. decision to execute a person live on air disgusting.
However, recent media reports indicated that Donald Trump and his advisers are discussing the possibility of canceling plans for a live broadcast of the firing squad execution.
