U.S. President Donald Trump has not ruled out invoking a law imposing sweeping sanctions on Russia to achieve peace in Ukraine, according to infohub.kz.
The American leader spoke about the possible application of the sanctions law against Russia from the rostrum of the United Nations General Assembly.
"Last week, in honor of Senator Lindsey Graham, I signed a powerful new bill passed by Congress that gives me enormous new tariff powers. And if necessary, I will have to use them," he said.
The bill on imposing "hell sanctions" was signed by Trump in the early hours of September 19. The document provides for sanctions and duties against Russia, as well as against the largest buyers of its energy resources.
It envisages secondary trade measures against countries purchasing Russian oil and gas: up to 500% duties on Russian goods imported into the U.S., and up to 100% duties on goods from countries that buy Russian oil or gas.
Recall that earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, called the U.S. bill on anti-Russian sanctions an unfriendly step and stated that their introduction could complicate efforts to find a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
