US President Donald Trump said Washington and Kyiv are discussing a license for the production of munitions for Patriot air defense systems. The American leader told reporters aboard Air Force One during his return from Ireland to the United States, according to infohub.kz.
Responding to a question from the press about the possibility of granting Ukraine a license to produce munitions for the Patriot, the White House chief said the sides "are in talks about it." He clarified that the discussion concerns "less sophisticated versions" of these interceptors.
Trump added that the system being supplied may be inferior in its characteristics to the variants Kyiv had previously requested.
Recall that in July, Trump promised to grant Ukraine a license to produce missiles for the Patriot, but later walked back his words. According to the American leader, the United States itself needs these missiles. The White House also explained that Trump is more focused on replenishing American stockpiles.
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, at a press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, announced agreements with the US on missiles for the Patriot system.
