US President Donald Trump has made official his latest renaming idea: he signed an executive order directing agencies to use the term "Super Intelligence" (SI) instead of "Artificial Intelligence," according to infohub.kz.
What initially seemed like another quirky notion from a president who apparently enjoys renaming familiar things has now gained official status.
"The order directs all departments and agencies to use the terms 'Super Intelligence' and 'SI' in official correspondence, public communications, policy documents, and non-legislative documents within the executive branch, and to cease using the terms 'Artificial Intelligence' or 'AI'," the White House release stated.
Trump first raised the idea during his speech at the UN General Assembly. Responding to Secretary-General António Guterres's call for stronger safeguards on neural networks, he said that "in the US, AI is already called 'Super Intelligence'." In his view, the word "artificial" suggests something fake, while "super" sounds much better.
However, the concept of "superintelligence" has long existed in technology. It refers to a hypothetical system that surpasses human intellectual abilities.
Previously, at the US president's initiative, the Gulf of Mexico was renamed the "Gulf of America," and Lake Ontario became "Lake America." Following the Trump administration, Apple and Google began updating these names on their maps.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that the creators of the animated series "South Park," Matt Stone and Trey Parker, renamed their iconic show to mock Trump. The series is now called "South America."
