President Donald Trump has approved a 30-year nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia worth tens of billions of dollars, according to Infohub.kz.
The Wall Street Journal, citing sources in Trump's team, reports that the White House gave the green light to the landmark deal, which provides for the development of a civilian nuclear program in the kingdom. The agreement potentially opens the door to uranium enrichment on Saudi soil.
“President Trump has officially approved the landmark agreement with Saudi Arabia that will provide the kingdom with a civilian nuclear program and potentially open the door to uranium enrichment on its soil,” officials close to the president told the newspaper.
Under the deal, if both sides deem it necessary to build uranium enrichment facilities in Saudi Arabia, U.S. companies will be required to carry out the work. The sources expressed concern that the agreement lacks security guarantees for the United States.
