US President Donald Trump has declared a crisis in the American film industry and proposed that Congress introduce tax incentives for local studios, according to infohub.kz.
He discussed the initiative at a meeting with actor and Oscar winner Jon Voight, whom Trump previously appointed as his special envoy to Hollywood.
"Hollywood is a total and absolute disaster! Despite the big name, there's practically no work there. Production has moved to Canada and other countries, and almost nothing is being filmed in the US. Jon and many others in the industry are proposing federal tax incentives to make our film business great again," the White House chief said.
The US president believes that the mass exodus of studios abroad is causing serious economic damage to California and other states.
Trump wants to hold consultations with leaders of both parties in Congress on the matter and expressed confidence that the cost of tax incentives to the US budget would "pay off tenfold" through job growth and federal revenue.
