US President Donald Trump said that it will become clear within the next day or two whether progress has been made in talks with Iran, according to infohub.kz.
As reported by the Times of India, speaking to reporters, Trump noted that talks with Iran are "going very well." He also hinted that a possible breakthrough could occur as early as today or tomorrow. "We'll know within 48 hours," the American leader said.
The remarks came after Trump told Fox News that both sides had held talks that lasted all day. The US President gave a positive assessment of the discussions, while warning that Iran could expect a "very strong strike" if no deal is reached.
In the interview, Trump also directly linked the talks to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. "The strait will open very soon, or they will suffer greatly, and then the strait will open," the White House chief said.
Earlier, Donald Trump had stated that the current talks with Iran were their "last chance" to sign an agreement. He also said that Iran will never have nuclear weapons and threatened new strikes if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened.
Previously, Trump called off an attack on Iran and then announced talks between Washington and Tehran. He said he had ordered a halt to strikes on Iran at the request of Middle Eastern countries and hinted at the possibility of a new deal regarding Hormuz.
