US President Donald Trump, who earlier called off a strike on Iran, has announced upcoming negotiations between Washington and Tehran, reports infohub.kz.
According to RIA Novosti, the talks are expected to take place on Monday. The White House chief told reporters during a flight: "We are now in dialogue with them in the format of negotiations. They will start tomorrow," Trump said on August 2.
The American leader did not specify who would participate in the meeting or where it would be held, nor did he set a timeline for reaching a deal. Nevertheless, Trump stated that a deal on the Strait of Hormuz is being prepared, which, he said, would be followed by an agreement on the denuclearization of Iran.
The White House chief also explained why he canceled the latest strike on Iran. "I was asked by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Iran... We are ready to start at any moment we want," he said.
Donald Trump said he ordered a halt to strikes on Iran at the request of Middle Eastern countries and expressed the possibility of a new deal regarding Hormuz. Later, Iran denied the US president's claim that he called off strikes on Iran due to an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz.
