U.S. President Donald Trump has announced his intention to rename Lake Ontario, which lies on the border between the United States and Canada, to "Lake America," according to infohub.kz.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, the American leader wrote: "The United States is seriously considering renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, as we do not expect to do further business with Ontario. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Lake Ontario is the smallest and easternmost of the Great Lakes of North America. Its northern shores border the Canadian province of Ontario, while its southern shores border the U.S. state of New York.
Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he would impose retaliatory tariffs against the United States on a "dollar-for-dollar" basis. In response, Donald Trump called Canada's policies a failure and its leadership, including Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford, incompetent.
