US President Donald Trump has criticized oil companies for excessive earnings and urged them to lower prices for consumers, according to infohub.kz.
As The Wall Street Journal reports, the remarks target two major corporations: in the second quarter, Chevron's profit surged nearly 400% to $12 billion, while Exxon's profit more than doubled to $14.5 billion.
"If you have a company that earned 12 times more than a year ago, it should give some of that back to the people. And they'd better lower the price for the consumer," Trump said in the Oval Office.
The White House chief admitted that he is outraged by oil companies' windfall profits amid rising prices due to the war in Iran, despite his stated support for free enterprise.
"Are you surprised I'm saying this? I'll say it plainly: I'm not happy about it," he stressed.
Trump expressed confidence that prices will fall after the war.
