Donald Trump has again proposed renaming the Strait of Hormuz to the "Strait of Trump," arguing that the waterway is under the control of U.S. armed forces, reports infohub.kz.
In a post on his Truth Social network, the American leader wrote: "Now that it's under U.S. control, shouldn't we rename the Strait of Hormuz to the 'Strait of Trump'? Like America itself, it will become 'hotter' than ever!"
Earlier, in March of this year, it was reported that the U.S. president was seriously considering renaming the Strait of Hormuz to the "Strait of America" or giving it his own name. At that time, Trump also allowed for such a possibility, publicly joking about it.
In that instance, he said: "They'll have to open up the Strait of Trump. I mean, Hormuz. Sorry, my apologies. What a terrible slip. Fake news will, of course, say he misspoke. But no—I don't have accidents. Almost never."
