Relations between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky have sunk to their lowest point since their Oval Office clash in February 2025, the Wall Street Journal reports, according to RIA Novosti, as cited by infohub.kz.

The publication notes that Trump told reporters the day before that Zelensky had repeatedly had opportunities to settle the Ukrainian conflict but had failed to do so. According to him, Ukraine needs a new leader.

"This criticism of Zelensky marks the lowest point in (their) relationship... since that Oval Office spat shortly after Trump's return to the White House in 2025," the Wall Street Journal report says.

The outlet also points out that Europe's efforts to persuade Trump of the need to continue aid to Kyiv could be undermined.

On Friday, February 28, 2025, Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington for talks with Trump on a ceasefire with Russia and a minerals deal. Trump greeted him at the threshold of the White House, joking that the Ukrainian president had "dressed up."

Before the talks, the two heads of state held a press conference during which a heated argument broke out between Trump, Zelensky and Vance.
