Russian figure skater Alexandra Ignatova, known by her maiden name Trusova, has been showing her followers around Almaty, where she arrived with her young son: between performances, the athlete finds time to explore the city, according to infohub.kz.
Ignatova posted photos from her walks on her Threads and Telegram channel. In one shot, the skater relaxes on a swing at a playground in Terrenkur — just across the road from the hotel where she is staying. The athlete admitted that Almaty's weather pleasantly surprised her.
"An unexpected perk of motherhood: you get to play on playgrounds again. The weather here is simply brilliant, +17 and sunny. It feels like a fairy tale! Besides the great weather, I can't help but note how beautiful it is here..." she wrote.
According to Ignatova, in between her performances she is showing her son Misha Kazakhstan. However, the skater joked that it's more the other way around: her son is showing her the city. Without him, she admitted, she would be nervously pacing her room waiting for her turn to skate.
The athlete came to Almaty for the international Denis Ten Memorial tournament. After the short program, Trusova was in first place with a score of 77.39 points. South Korean skater Kim Yu-jae was second with 75.99 points, and Kazakhstan's Sofya Samodelkina took third with 69.45 points.
Samodelkina commented on Trusova's arrival in Almaty, noting they have been friends since their days competing for the Russian national team. Now the two represent different countries but met at the tournament.
"Sasha and I finally met and had a proper chat. The last time we performed together was, I think, in 2023, and before that we saw each other at the Russian Championships in 2021. I think we'll still have time to talk, reminisce, and maybe come up with something new," Samodelkina said.
Alexandra Trusova is known by the nickname "Russian Rocket." She won silver at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and gained fame for her technically difficult programs and numerous world records. She now competes under her husband's surname, Ignatova.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that Kazakh figure skater Sofya Samodelkina shared her emotions after her first performance at the Denis Ten Memorial in Almaty.
