Details have emerged about a technical malfunction of an aircraft at Turkestan airport: the plane is believed to have lost one of its engines, after which the automatic braking system engaged and the landing gear caught fire. Journalist Mikhail Kozachkov reported this, citing a summary he received, according to infohub.kz.
The incident occurred on September 11. According to the journalist, the aircraft in question is a National Guard military transport plane that was scheduled to fly from Turkestan to Astana. On board were six crew members and 59 servicemen.
According to this information, the failure of one engine is believed to have occurred during takeoff. The automatic braking system then engaged, causing the landing gear to catch fire.
The fire was extinguished by the airport's fire service. According to Kozachkov, 13 people and three pieces of equipment were involved in the response, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations was not called in.
Passengers and crew left the aircraft on their own; no one was injured. The aircraft remained on the runway, causing several flights to be delayed. It was later removed from the runway using equipment.
Kozachkov claims the aircraft is a Y-8F-200WA military transport plane manufactured by China's Shaanxi Aircraft Company. In 2025, the National Guard received its first such aircraft, and according to his data, a total of eight were planned for delivery.
The Y-8F-200WA is a turboprop military transport aircraft developed from the Soviet An-12.
The aircraft's affiliation with the National Guard, the engine failure, and the landing gear fire have not yet been officially confirmed.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that on September 11, an aircraft at Turkestan airport experienced a technical malfunction on the runway.
