Residents of Turkey's Kelkit district cooked 6,840 liters of stewed beans in a single container to set a new world record, infohub.kz reports.
According to UPI, residents and authorities of Gümüşhane province set a dual goal: to draw global attention to the local sugar bean variety and to support farmers in the Kelkit district.
For the culinary feat, engineers specially designed and built a giant cauldron with an automatic heating and cooling system. Over the course of a week, municipal specialists, mechanical engineers, and food technologists tested the equipment to ensure the dish would be both tasty and safe.
The official record registration took place under strict expert supervision. In the presence of independent witnesses and a food quality engineer, specialists measured the volume of the prepared dish. The tank held 6,840 liters of beans cooked according to a traditional recipe.
This comfortably surpassed the previous record set in 2012, when 5,600 liters of a similar dish were cooked in Macedonia.
The organizers hope that entering the Guinness Book of Records will help the local beans reach the international market and sell at a fair price. Residents themselves are proud that their region has made history.
Immediately after the official measurements and the presentation of the certificate, thousands of portions of hot beans were distributed to all guests of the celebration.
