An international masterclass on treating deep burns in children and restoring mobility after severe injuries is underway in Almaty, reports infohub.kz.
The event is organized at the Center for Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Turkish specialists brought modern equipment for skin grafting and donated it to the Almaty center.
Throughout the week, doctors from Kazakhstan and Turkey are performing joint surgeries, consulting patients, and reviewing complex clinical cases.
As noted by the head of the burn unit at the Center for Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Radzha Zhumadildaev, about 2,000 children with burns seek care at the clinic annually, with over a thousand requiring hospitalization.
Emrah Senel, head of the pediatric surgery clinic and burn center at Ankara Hospital, said that during the masterclass, a surgery was performed on a child who could not move his foot properly due to scar tissue after a burn. "We restored mobility in the leg. The Kazakh colleagues are excellent at such operations. The surgery on one side was performed by local surgeons, and on the other side we operated together," he emphasized.
Earlier, Kazakh doctors managed to save a young man with burns over 89% of his body after a gas cylinder explosion, and previously, plastic surgeries were performed on seven children with severe burn injuries in Almaty.
