Two people died in a head-on collision on the border of the Sayram and Tolebi districts of the Turkistan Region. Local residents describe this stretch of road as extremely dangerous, reports infohub.kz.
According to preliminary data, a Chinese-made Lixiang SUV and a VAZ passenger car collided head-on. Another vehicle was also sideswiped.
Three people were inside the VAZ. Two of them died, and another passenger was taken to hospital in serious condition. The deceased were both 27 years old.
It is noted that almost nothing remained of the passenger car after the collision. Witnesses ran out of their vehicles and pulled people from the mangled cars.
"As a result of the accident, the driver and a passenger of the VAZ died at the scene. Another VAZ passenger was hospitalized at a medical facility. The Lixiang driver has been detained and taken to the police station," said Gulnar Abdizhapparova, head of the press service of the Turkistan Region Police Department.
The SUV driver is believed to have caused the accident.
Local residents say that driving on the stretch where the tragedy occurred is dangerous, as the narrow road can barely accommodate trucks and passenger cars.
