A double tragedy occurred in the Turkistan region: two brothers drowned in the Syr Darya River, reports the website infohub.kz.
According to KTK TV channel, the accident happened three days ago in the Sauran district. The men, aged 24 and 28, were swimming in a prohibited area. The younger brother began to drown, and the elder rushed to help him, but both perished. Their bodies were not found for a long time.
The search was conducted by rescuers from the Turkistan region and Shymkent, police, and relatives. The brothers were searched day and night using underwater equipment and drones. The body of the 24-year-old was found first, carried 6 kilometers by the current. Later, his elder brother was also found.
“At 09:45, the operational rescue team of the Emergency Department of the Turkistan region found the body at a distance of 30 km from the scene. Dear residents and guests of the Turkistan region, follow water safety rules, do not swim in unapproved and prohibited areas,” warned Orazgeldy Duisen, head of the civil defense department of the Emergency Department of the Turkistan region.
