Typhoon Dolphin reached the eastern coast of China, battering densely populated areas, according to the meteorological service. The disaster has caused widespread destruction and affected millions of lives, reports infohub.kz.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the typhoon made landfall in Yuhuan county-level city at about 5:30 p.m. local time on Sunday. Maximum wind speeds near the center reached 42 meters per second, equivalent to level 14 on the Beaufort scale.
After that, Dolphin passed through the waters north of Taiwan, triggering hundreds of natural emergencies. Six people were injured as a result. Across Taiwan, 632 incidents were recorded, including fallen trees, damaged roads and tunnels, toppled shipping containers, and rockfalls along highways.
Later, the typhoon hit Zhejiang province again. According to ABC, more than 1,000 flights were canceled, mass evacuations were carried out, and authorities issued the highest-level warning.
Authorities had prepared in advance: in some areas along the typhoon's projected path, businesses and transportation were suspended. Heavy rains posed a threat of massive flooding in Zhejiang province, with a high risk of landslides also warned.
Chinese meteorologists forecast that some areas may receive 200 to 400 millimeters of precipitation in the coming days, exacerbating the situation.
According to social media reports, more than a million people were evacuated, over 1,300 flights canceled, and ports closed. In Shanghai, emergency measures were activated, and a red alert for heavy rain was issued for the first time in 13 years.
Local services continue to deal with the aftermath, conducting rescue and relief operations.
