British regulators have approved the sale of the oral drug Foundayo for treating obesity and type 2 diabetes. The monthly cost of the tablets is lower than popular injectable alternatives, according to infohub.kz.
On Monday, August 24, Eli Lilly announced the launch of its oral drug Foundayo in the UK for weight management and type 2 diabetes treatment. The UK is the first country in Europe where such treatment is available.
The drug, known as orforglipron, will be available by prescription only. It is the second oral GLP-1 drug approved in the UK, following Novo Nordisk's Wegovy.
The cost of Foundayo will range from £100 to £120, which is cheaper than the £330 monthly supply of the injectable drug Mounjaro.
Foundayo is still under review in the European Union, while Novo's Wegovy has already received a positive recommendation from the European Medicines Agency. However, the final decision from the European Commission has not yet been made.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Mounjaro and Wegovy are undergoing accelerated review in Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Health said that as of early August 2026, 63 contracts had been signed under the accelerated drug review, and 20 applications had been submitted. Currently, six are undergoing initial review, and 14 are in the next stage.
